The phones are ringing off the hook,
But smiling voices are all it took
To get me through prevailing cons and pros.
Another day’s work is finally ended;
Home with pay, the hearth is tended.
Rains have stopped, the children come and go!
You haven’t one to call your own,
But a neighbor’s child has safely returned home
From front lines, ravaged war-time ills and woes.
A note arrives from an old friend;
Her words intone a lilt once again.
Praise God! Life’s good and blessings overflow!
Simple pleasures, served to greet
Aunts and Grandma-types with treats:
Laughter, reverie and left-overs to go!
